| I'm officially a traitor. My dad, uncle, aunt, and a few of their friends have all been playing a game called Rift, and while I was pet sitting (the 1st round) and didn't have mabi, I decided to play on my uncles account. The game is AMAZING!!! The graphics are gorgeous, and it's extremely well rounded. It looks a bit complicated compared to mabi, but it's really fun once you get the hang of things. Sadly, it's a subscription based game, but imo $15 a mth is better than indeterminate amounts every time a pet or new gachas come out, and you don't have to pay for all the extra goodies. The general premise of the game is that the world is taken over by these monstrous rifts and invasions, and you get sent back in time to when they first start to occur in order to be able to stop it. your character structure is set up by many things: - Spoiler:
1) faction: basically Guardians who choose to do things by the book and follow rules, or Defiants who choose to take things into their own hands. This is set up mainly for people who like to pvp
2)race: there are I believe 3 races for each faction, and each one has special abilities. For example, I chose "Eth"; a race of humans native to the desert. They have resistance to earth damage and a special sprinting ability
3)class. Typical categories...mage: dps dealer, offensive magics, warrior: hack + slash, tank, etc etc. typical fighter class., rogue: ranger, assasin, etc. a good dps type, but not very good statwise for an all out offense., cleric: healer, shaman, etc. can go either as offensive or support.
4)profession: each class has a multitude of different professions. You're only allowed to have 3 at a time, but can change them at will. I chose Eth - Rogue, and the professions I have are Ranger: obviously, deals with range. specializes with bow or gun, Saboteur: explosive specialist. sticks bombs onto the enemies and detonates them (i love this profession soooo much...BOOM!!), and Marksman: another range-based profession, supports ranger by increasing ranged status.
5) Soul Tree: of the 3 professions allowed, you're given a tree. This is where you spend soul points (the equivalent of AP in mabi) Rather than being given skills to rank at the beginning, you spend your points to increase your stats, or gain new abilities. new skills, resistances, permanent stat increases, etc are gained this way.
apart from the basic character structure, there are also life skills. as with your professions, you can only have 3 at a time, but can interchange them. I'm currently unaware of whether or not you can resume your previous ranks and levels if you decide to resume one of your discarded life skills, but training isnt as bad as you'd think. In regards to the professions, when you switch out, your soul tree is reset, so you can freely re-assign all your points to incorporate your new one (gotta keep in mind though that if you remove points from one of the other sections, you'll lose the skill or stats that are obtained through the points you remove) the game itself is extremely well rounded, and the world is pretty huge. there are the storyline and leveling quests, as well as specialized dungeons or raids accessible through the city. Rifts will open up anywhere and everywhere, and will send invasions to attack npc cities as well. Because this is the premise of the game, there are obviously items, equips, and special currencies that can only be obtained through doing these. They are large, and anyone can join in. basically, if you participate, you get rewarded...the more you contribute to the overall rift, the better the rewards. the currencies can be spent at certain npcs for auguments, essences, special pets/wardrobes, etc etc. in regards to equips and clothing....for people that complain about the equips not "looking good" or matching, etc etc....there are 2 different sections. equips themselves have stats, as a lot of rpg based games do. obviously better gear = better chara stats. The game DOES appeal to people who prefer appearance as well. there is a "wardrobe" section, in which you can get clothing to change your appearance, without having to remove your armor. this allows players to find a look for their character that they like, without having to remove their better gear. unfortunately, a lot of the stuff is expensive, or obtained through world events and special currency dealers. this isnt a game that you can easily "power level" through and run out of things to do. the quests and rifts themselves give a person plenty to do, and the events and invasions can keep a person occupied for hours. in addition to all that, there's collections you can complete, achievements to work towards, and titles to obtain. i can probably ramble on and on even more than i already have, but I'll end this with a few screenshots to give you an idea of the graphics themselves. a death rift - Spoiler:
example of a rogue soul tree. only 2 professions occupied - Spoiler:
close up of a kelari cleric - Spoiler:
one of the mobs found in the 1st map (Freemarch). - Spoiler:
close up of the freemarch and meridian area on map. this is the area i spent an entirety of 3 days in before being able to (finally) reach a new map section. - Spoiler:
the world map. warning: major page stretch. the map of freemarch would be around the middle right area - Spoiler:

| *nods* I'm tempted to try it for a few mths or so with the family, and see if it's worth a continued subscription. when i was playing yesterday, i was trying to collect squirrel tears....there's an achievement called "Cry me a river" and i think you get a title for it....but you need 20 squirrel tears to get it....so i'm beating up on little animals XD | |

| how about combat? is it more like mabinobi where you have to time a skill, or is it like other games like... WoW or Warhammer, where you just use your most powerful skill over and over.
I totaly got board with Mabinogi again, can't even think of something to work towards really.
Know the time commitment on events? end game or mid game? Not sure if I want to start another MMO, I'm quite fine playing TF2 and Kings bounty. (and soon HHOM6)
Its also only $20 right now on steam.

| I played rift in beta, but found it to be not overall worth my money, mainly due to I not knowing anyone playing, but I might consider going ang buying it if others are playing too. | |

| it's hard to expxlain. there is a timer, but it doesn't take any longer than the delay you'd have in mabi. there are different skills based on the 3 souls you choose, and you can go to your class trainer to upgrade them.
in the same way that you cant smash AND charge at the exact same time, you cannot use 2 different skills at the same time in rift. some skills have a cooldown, like final hit or champion would in mabi, but it doesn't take nearly as long either.
@roxy keep in mind too, that beta is always short of content and full of bugs as well. I do have to agree, if you don't have friends, and have no guidance or any idea of what you're doing, it can get pretty boring. there are a lot of aspects to the game that can end up being completely overlooked if you just follow it quest by quest, and certain aspects (such as dungeons) that require a group to even be able to access.

I DID buy the game, and am now starting it up some 12+ hours later, I'll see how much I get done, also wouldn't it be good if you recruit a friend people, or w.e it's call in this game.

Free trial sounds nice. Not sure how much time I could spend on it though. How much is the subscription per month? I might consider investing in this if I like it and get a job.

| It depends. The game itself has to be bought (and it covers the 1st mth), then there's 3 diff payment methors....15 each mth, or like 13.soomething per mth, and you have to pay it all every 3 mths....or 10 a mth, and you pay every 6....something like that.
if you want the free trial, send me your email via forum pm or somehting
